San Pasqual Academy, is a one-of-a-kind residential educational campus for foster teens. The team worked closely with the County of San Diego to develop a long-range master plan, to unify the campus for a more integrated, fire-safe community for faculty, surrogate grandparents, and students. Facilities destroyed and damaged by California wildfires presented an opportunity to restore and improve this important 250 acre facility, to create a community for these kids, their on-site mentors and staff. The campus core occupies approximately 19 acres among the campus’s 238 acres.
The project included housing for students, staff, and mentors, a gymnasium, sports fields, swimming pool, technical center, cafeteria, administration building, and career center as well as hiking trails and paths. Master planning played a large role in the development of this project because of the different types of users the housing should accommodate. It was important that these youth be provided a campus that would function as a community as well as an educational facility.
Among many awards, this project attained LEED Platinum certification for housing.
